-burke-

read, in order to live
-henry fielding-

he that loves reading has everything within his reach
-william godwin-

to learn to read is to light a fire;
every syllable that is spelled out is a spark
-victor hugo-

the more that you read,
the more things you will know
the more that you learn,
the more places you'll go
-dr seuss-

reading is to mind what exercise is to the body
-richard steels-

-lamar cole-

when we read,
we may not only be kings and live in palaces,
but
what is far better, we may transport ourselves
to the mountains or the seashores
and
visit the most beautiful parts of the earth,
without fatigue, inconvenience or expense
-john lubbock-

make books your companions,
let your bookshelves be your gardens;
bask in their beauty, gather their fruit, pluck their roses, take their spices
and when your soul be weary,
change from garden to garden
and from prospect to prospect
-ibn tibban-

read not to contradict and confute;
nor to believe and take for granted;
nor to find talk and discourse;
but
to weigh and consider.
some books are to be tasted,others to be swallowed
and some few to be chewed and digested:
that is, some books are to be read only in parts,
others to be read, but not curiously,
and some few to be read wholly and with diligence and attention
-francis bacon-

reading furnishes the mind only with materials for knowledge;
it is thinking that makes what we read ours
